Is washing my hair with shampoo everyday bad?

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to shampooing your hair, at the end of the day it's a personal choice. Washing your hair removes dirt, odour and sebum - your body's natural oils. Regular shampooing can also help clear build up of dandruff and dead skin and hair follicles sitting on your head. Take into consideration your lifestyle when asking, is it okay to wash my hair every day?

If you work out every day or live in a humid climate you might want to wash your hair every day, compared to someone who isn’t as active or who lives in a cold climate. At the end of the day if you want to wash your hair every day, and are happy to do so, that’s okay.

How often should I wash my hair with shampoo?

We don't all happen to have the same type of hair; your hair care regime should be based on the type of hair you have. Hair characteristics to consider are volume, consistency and curl pattern; thick or thin, fine or coarse and straight or curly. It’s these characteristics you need to take into consideration when asking, how often should I wash my hair?

Fine, straight hair has different needs to thick, curly hair - fine hair tends to be oilier while curly hair relies on the hair’s natural oils to keep it soft and hydrated. Oily roots tend to flatten fine hair, while washing curly hair more often can dry it out. Equip yourself with the right shampoo and conditioner, and you can wash your hair as little or as much as you like.

Should I be using sulfate-free shampoo?

Sulfate is the stuff that turns your shampoo into bubbly suds, to catch and draw out oil, dirt and grime from your hair. Simple and effective. Yet sulfate does such a good job at cleaning your hair that in some cases it can strip out too much of the natural oils from your scalp and hair.

This can cause your scalp to become sensitive, causing dryness and itching, and make your hair dry and brittle. So, the question isn’t, should I be using sulfate-free shampoo but what’s the best shampoo for my hair.

We stock a range of shampoos for damaged hair that are specially formulated to repair strengthen and moisturise chemically damaged hair such as AG Hair's Therapy Tech Two Protein Shampoo.
