What does hair conditioner do?

Just like shampoo, conditioner is a fundamental step in your hair care regime. While shampoo is great at removing dirt and grime, shampoo also removes your natural sebum. Why is removing sebum a problem? Sebum is the body’s natural oil, and is vital for hydrated, healthy hair!

Therefore, your conditioner’s main job is to replenish the moisture taken from your hair during shampooing. But that’s not all! Conditioner also protects your hair from damage by coating the hair cuticles, smoothing the hair, detangling those pesky knots, and making it soft and shiny. 

The silky smooth feel that you get from using a conditioner also helps reduce that chances of your hair breaking or you getting split ends.

How often should I condition my hair?

There’s no right or wrong when it comes to how often you should condition your hair – it ultimately depends on your hair texture, length, colour and the frequency you use styling tools. Generally speaking, you can use conditioner every time you shampoo to replace the hair’s natural oils.

Those with naturally dry hair may need a little more assistance to help retain moisture evenly across their hair, so a hydrating conditioner is recommended. Alternatively, those with oily hair need only to use a small amount of conditioner, while those with super fine hair should use a light conditioner that won’t weight their hair down.

Is conditioner good for hair growth?
